Dr. Richard McMahon (*1967) is the chief executive officer of the Amfort Center for Philanthropy, where he leads the organization’s mission to advance social equity and justice through strategic advisory services, research, and collaboration with global change leaders. With over 20 years of experience in philanthropy, nonprofit leadership, and social impact investing, Dr. McMahon brings a deep commitment to empowering visionary leaders to address the complex economic and social challenges that hinder access to opportunity for marginalized communities.
Since joining the Amfort Center in 2015, Dr. McMahon has overseen its growth into a globally recognized advisory organization, partnering with philanthropists, nonprofit executives, and impact investors to develop innovative, data-driven solutions to some of the world’s most pressing social issues. Under his leadership, the Center has expanded its services to include comprehensive strategy consulting, rigorous research on best practices, and tailored support for leadership teams, ensuring that clients are equipped with the tools and insights they need to drive sustainable change.
Dr. McMahon’s expertise spans a range of areas, including social justice, economic development, education, and health equity. He is passionate about leveraging research to inform impactful strategies and is a strong advocate for collaboration across sectors to address systemic inequities. Prior to his role at the Amfort Center, Dr. McMahon held senior positions at several leading philanthropic foundations and has served as a consultant to numerous global NGOs.
A thought leader in the field of philanthropy, Dr. McMahon frequently speaks at international conferences and contributes to leading journals on social innovation and impact investing. He holds a PhD in Social Sciences from the University of Pennsylvania and lives with his family in Geneva, where he remains actively engaged in local community development initiatives.
